Taking inspiration from Ruskin's privileged position of the ruins as host to patina and stain. This architecture develops and grows over the centuries it will take the ruins to decay, stabilising their form. In opposition to the 'gleaming skeletons' of ruined structures being perceived in unchanging monumentality (the ruins of Rievaulx have carefully concealed concrete piers within their walls), this interventionary strategy leaves visible stain and scar on the structures.
